Using Mold Removal Products

If you are troubled by a musty smell or you have noticed some dark stains in certain parts of your house, do not worry because there are various mold removal products available to solve the problem. Mold is a kind of fungus that lives in damp and warm environments. They often form on various kinds of organic materials like wood, paper, natural fibers, leather or those surfaces that are coated with organic matter. Certain areas of the home, such as the shower, bathroom, kitchen, attic, closet, basement and laundry room, are prone to the growth of mold colonies. Therefore, it is also important to check out these areas and determine the materials used for the surfaces so that you can choose the proper mold removal products to buy.

Before selecting which of the mold removal products to purchase, it may also be advisable to check out resources that review the various products. You may also want to consider natural products, such as vinegar, for use in getting rid of mold. For example, if the surfaces are non-porous like tiles, glass, bathtubs and counter tops, a bleach solution is effective as a mold and mildew remover. However, the bleach solution is not effective for porous surfaces. It is also advisable to be careful with this material because it releases abrasive fumes.

A safer chemical to use is distilled white vinegar, which should be placed in a spray bottle. The technique to use is to spray the vinegar onto the areas and leave it there for about an hour before wiping it with water. Another possible chemical to use for mould removal is hydrogen peroxide. Like vinegar, this is also safer to use than the bleach solution because it does not emit toxic fumes. Commercial products are usually available in spray bottles so that they also work in the same way. Some of these products are guaranteed to kill molds by encapsulating their spores. This will prevent the spores from attaching themselves to the various surfaces. And because they are unable to reach their sources of food, these will naturally die. After applying the products for killing and removing the molds, you can also apply chemicals that act as shields for the surfaces to prevent the molds from returning.

After applying mold removal products, it would be prudent to minimize the possibility that these fungi would return. Because molds thrive on water, you may need to check if there are any cracks in the walls, ceilings or insulation that can let moisture in or if there are any leaks on water pipes. You may need to hire a plumber to fix any water pipe problems. If there are any cracks in the insulation, walls or ceilings, a contractor may be required. It is also advisable to maintain the relative humidity within the range of 30 to 50 degrees. This can be accomplished by an air conditioning system and/or dehumidifier. And for the bathroom and kitchen where the humidity is usually higher, you can use exhausts fans to drive out the humid air to the outside of the home.
